All the world's problems can be solved in a garden. Geoff Lawton

Our Permaculture Garden

A demonstration garden has been part of the co‑op's vision from the very beginning. Thanks to the energy of our amazing garden volunteers, grants from the city of Port Orford, and donations from community members, that vision has come to life.

The garden is open to everyone. Stop by any time to wander the paths, see what's growing, and enjoy the beautiful "mess" that is part of making food forests a reality in Port Orford.

What is Permaculture?

Permaculture (permanent + culture) is the practice of creating ethical and resilient human, plant, and animal systems that mimic nature. It's guided by a set of ethics and design principles that work with natural patterns instead of against them.

Our demonstration garden puts these principles into practice so that permaculture ideas can ripple out into our community and beyond. You'll see food forests, companion planting, water harvesting, and other techniques that show how nature can do most of the heavy lifting.

🦝 Fair warning: once you see the garden, you might start composting everything in sight.

Want to Get Your Hands Dirty?

We're always looking for garden volunteers. Whether you're a seasoned grower or just curious about permaculture, there's a place for you here. Volunteers also earn store discounts.
